Highlights

What you came for.

  • Mu Gompa near the Tibetan border
  • Rachen Gompa nunnery
  • Milarepa's cave
  • Hidden Buddhist valley

Overview

A sacred hidden valley near the Tibetan border, known for its old Buddhist monasteries and an unhurried traditional way of life.

The Tsum Valley branches off the Manaslu trail and was closed to visitors until 2008. Its people follow old Buddhist traditions, and the valley is known as a pilgrimage route linked with Milarepa.

Altitude is moderate, topping out at Mu Gompa at about 3,700 m. Long days on rough paths and simple lodging still make this a real adventure.

A restricted area permit and a licensed guide are required.
