Overview
A long expedition-style trek to the north and south base camps of the world's third highest mountain, in Nepal's far east.
This is one of Nepal's great remote treks. It visits Pangpema, the north base camp at about 5,143 m, and Oktang on the south side, linked by high passes around Selele La.
Forest, Limbu and Sherpa villages and glaciers make this a varied journey. Lodges are basic and some stretches need careful planning.
A restricted area permit, a conservation area permit and a licensed guide are required. Domestic flights to Bhadrapur and Suketar can change with the weather.
