Overview

A first Himalayan summit above 6,000 m, combining the Everest Base Camp trail with a guided glacier climb of Imja Tse.

Island Peak, also called Imja Tse, is 6,189 m and rises from the Chhukhung valley. It is one of Nepal's most popular climbing peaks and a common first step into Himalayan mountaineering.

The trip acclimatizes on the Everest trail and includes training on fixed ropes. Summit day crosses a glacier and climbs a steep snow headwall to a narrow ridge.

You should be very fit and comfortable using crampons and an ascender. Prior winter or alpine experience helps. A climbing permit is required.
