Overview
The classic walk through Sherpa country to the foot of the world's highest mountain, with a sunrise climb of Kala Patthar for the best close view of Everest.
This is Nepal's best-known trek, following the expedition route from Lukla through Sherpa villages, monasteries and glacial valleys to Everest Base Camp at 5,364 m.
The pace builds in two acclimatization days, and the high point is Kala Patthar at about 5,545 m, where Everest, Nuptse and Pumori fill the skyline. No climbing skills are needed, but you should be fit enough for several long days at altitude.
A national park permit and the local Khumbu entry permit are required. Flights to Lukla depend on mountain weather, so leave spare days after the trek.
