Overview
A car-free Newar hill town on an old trade route, with restored 18th-century houses and big Himalayan views.
Bandipur grew as a trading stop between India and Tibet, and its bazaar street of Newar houses has been carefully restored. Vehicles are kept out of the main street, so it's lovely to walk through.
Short hikes reach Tundikhel viewpoint, Thani Mai temple and Siddha Gufa, one of Nepal's largest caves. It is easily combined with Pokhara or Chitwan.
Facilities are small and fill quickly on Nepali holidays.
